Cognitive & Leadership Assessment

Understand How You Think, Work & Lead

You don't need to be struggling—or wondering whether you have a diagnosis—to benefit from understanding how your mind works.

You may be a leader or professional who wants a more sophisticated understanding of your cognitive strengths, executive functioning, decision-making, and work patterns. Perhaps you're stepping into a larger role, managing increasing complexity, trying to understand why some aspects of your work come naturally while others require considerably more effort, or looking for ways to lead and perform more intentionally.

A Cognitive & Leadership Assessment combines psychological expertise with objective assessment to examine patterns that can be difficult to identify through self-reflection alone. Rather than evaluating you against an idealized model of leadership, the assessment focuses on how you actually process information, approach complexity, organize and execute work, and use your strengths.

The result is a highly individualized understanding of your cognitive and executive functioning profile—and a practical framework for using that information in your work and leadership.

Beyond Personality Tests & Leadership Profiles

Personality inventories, leadership profiles, and strengths assessments can provide useful language for understanding preferences, tendencies, and interpersonal style. But they don't necessarily tell you how your brain handles the cognitive demands of your work.

A Cognitive & Leadership Assessment goes deeper by examining aspects of cognitive and executive functioning using standardized psychological measures. Depending on your goals, this may include how you reason through complex information, hold and manipulate information in mind, sustain and shift attention, work efficiently under different demands, organize and prioritize, solve problems, and adapt when circumstances change.

For high-performing professionals, the most useful findings are often not simply areas of relative strength or weakness, but the relationships between them. A particular cognitive strength may help you compensate for another area that requires more effort. A strategy that contributed to success earlier in your career may become less effective as your responsibilities expand. Or the way you naturally process information may work exceptionally well in some leadership situations while creating friction in others.

The purpose isn't to identify an ideal cognitive profile for leadership. There isn't one. It's to understand your individual profile well enough to make more intentional decisions about how you structure your work, approach complex demands, communicate, delegate, and lead.

The question shifts from “What kind of leader am I?” to “How do I actually operate—and what can I do with that information?”

What a Cognitive & Leadership Assessment Looks At

A Cognitive & Leadership Assessment examines how you process information, manage cognitive demands, and translate your abilities into action. The specific measures are selected based on your goals, with findings considered in the context of your work, responsibilities, and leadership demands.

Cognitive Strengths & Abilities

Assessment examines patterns across different areas of cognitive functioning, such as verbal and visual reasoning, working memory, and processing speed. The focus is not simply on how you perform compared with others, but on the relative strengths and differences within your own cognitive profile.

Attention, Working Memory & Executive Functioning

How you direct attention, hold information in mind, organize and prioritize, initiate and complete tasks, shift between demands, and monitor your own performance can significantly shape how you work—particularly as complexity and competing demands increase.

Problem-Solving & Cognitive Flexibility

Assessment can help identify how you approach unfamiliar or complex problems, integrate information, adapt when circumstances change, and balance speed, accuracy, and deliberation when making decisions.

Patterns Under Increasing Demands

Strengths and vulnerabilities don't operate in isolation. Assessment considers how your cognitive profile may interact with workload, time pressure, interruptions, competing priorities, and increasing levels of responsibility—and why strategies that work well in one environment may be less effective in another.

Translating Insight Into Practice

Findings are connected back to your actual professional life. The goal is to identify ways to capitalize on cognitive strengths, reduce unnecessary friction, structure work more effectively, and make deliberate choices about communication, delegation, decision-making, and leadership.

The goal isn't simply to describe how you performed on a set of tests. It's to translate what we learn into a more useful understanding of how you work and lead.

What to Expect from Your Cognitive & Leadership Assessment

Your assessment is individualized around the professional questions you want to explore. The specific measures may vary, but the process typically includes:

Goals & Background Information
Before the assessment, you'll provide information about your professional background, current role, responsibilities, and what you hope to better understand. This helps Dr. Ashley design an assessment that is relevant to your goals rather than simply administering a standard battery.

Individualized Cognitive Assessment
You'll complete standardized psychological measures selected to examine areas relevant to how you think and work. Depending on your goals, this may include cognitive abilities, attention, working memory, processing speed, executive functioning, problem-solving, and other areas of cognitive performance.

Integration With Your Professional Context
Test results are considered alongside the demands of your role and your own experiences of how you work. The focus is on understanding patterns across the findings and what they may mean in the context of decision-making, workload, communication, delegation, complexity, and leadership.

Individual Feedback & Strategy Session
You'll meet with Dr. Ashley for an in-depth review of your results. Together, you'll translate the findings into practical implications for your work, including ways to capitalize on strengths, reduce friction, and approach areas that require greater effort more intentionally.

Individualized Written Summary
You'll receive a written summary of your cognitive profile, key findings, and individualized strategies and recommendations to use moving forward.

This is not a diagnostic evaluation unless that has been specifically established as part of the assessment question. The focus is understanding how you operate—and making that information useful.

From Assessment to Action

Understanding your cognitive profile can be valuable on its own. It can also provide a foundation for making more intentional changes in how you work and lead.

Some people complete a Cognitive & Leadership Assessment because they want greater clarity about their strengths, work patterns, and approach to complex demands. The assessment and feedback process may provide exactly what they need to take that information forward independently.

Others may want support translating those insights into changes in their day-to-day professional life. Executive coaching can provide a space to experiment with new strategies, examine leadership patterns, work through specific challenges, and adapt approaches as your role or responsibilities evolve.

Because the assessment provides objective information about how you process information and manage cognitive demands, subsequent coaching can begin with a more individualized understanding of what is likely to work for you—and why.

Assessment provides the map. Coaching provides a place to work with what you learn.
